It’s hard to believe the percentages of charter school students in selected US cities. The charter school movement started in 1992 and there were few schools in the first five years and only a handful of states with charter school statutes. There are now more than 4,000 schools in the U.S. Here are examples of huge growth in enrollment from a recent report:
69% are charter school students in New Orleans.
28% are charter school students in Dayton, Ohio
25% are charter school students in Washington, DC
20% are charter school students in Pontiac, Michigan
20% are charter school students in Kansas City, Missouri
